Honey Roast Ham
Quite frankly, this honey roast ham recipe came about because I wasn’t organised enough to cook a gammon joint in the slow cooker, as I often do, as there wasn’t enough time. So I tried cooking a honey glazed ham joint in the oven instead.
I was very impressed with how well this baked honey glazed ham came out – particularly considering how very little forethought and effort I put in. This honey roast gammon joint is delicious with roast potatoes and veg, and you can use any leftovers in sandwiches.
It’s also great in main meals, roughly chopped and used in pastas, risottos, pies, quiches and many more. It is also perfect for Christmas, especially as it can be served in a variety of ways. You can eat it as part of the big roast, at teatime, during a Boxing Day buffet, or with salad as well as in other recipes.
This is so easy to make. There’s no need for cold water or to add bay leaves or cloves. You don’t have to cut a diamond pattern into the gammon joint or remove it repeatedly during the cooking time. Just bung the joint of ham in the oven and you’re away, until 10 minutes before the end when you add the honey. The search for a simple roast gammon recipe is over.
Kids even love this version. You could roast one just for making the family sandwiches with during the week if you wanted to. Especially when you have the oven on anyway and there’s enough available space. This tastes so much better than shop-bought packs of ham.
Serves 4-6 as a main meal or more as part of a buffet or in sandwiches
