This milk or dark chocolate orange tiffin was designed especially for a Halloween party, hence the decoration pictured. You could make this no bake cake at any time of year, though. Simply use some sort of sprinkles in place of the edible eyes. Such as gold stars, perhaps, which would look good with the orange Smarties. It’s great for Christmas – or afterwards, when you could use some leftover chocolate to make it.

To ramp up the orange chocolate flavour I also add orange Matchmakers and a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Rich Tea rather than digestive biscuits adds extra crunch, which I think complements the Matchmakers. As with all my rocky road recipes, this tiffin recipe doesn’t involve measuring out and melting however many tbsp golden syrup or butter. There’s none of either in it. You can also choose whether to use dark or milk chocolate – or mix of both.

This no bake chocolate biscuit slice is chilled in the fridge after mixing and placing in the dish to set. That’s it – no baking whatsoever for this kind of cake. Adults and children love this chocolate orange rocky road, too. It’s a great one for school bake sales or to take to a Halloween or Christmas party. Everyone loves a food contribution when they’re catering or fundraising. In terms of taste, this chocolate orange fridge cake recipe rating would score highly. Yet the effort required is minimal.

How to make Chocolate Orange Tiffin

  • Prepare the baking dish by lining with baking paper.
  • Melt the chocolate in a large bowl (I do this in the microwave, starting with a 30 second burst – then stir. Then 20, stir, then 10, as required)
  • Mix the crushed biscuits, rice pops, Matchmakers and HALF the orange Smarties into the melted chocolate and stir well.
  • Spread the mixture into the lined dish. Press down firmly.
  • Chill for about 30 minutes, or more if you have more time. Meanwhile, crush around half the remaining Smarties using a pestle & mortar, so you have some chunks, and some powdery bits.
  • Melt the chocolate orange, then spread it over the top of the chilled tiffin.
  • Working quickly, press around half the remaining orange Smarties into the chocolate. Do the same with the edible eyes/stars/sprinkles.
  • Finally, scatter over the crushed Smarties, then chill for 30 minutes or more.
  • Remove the chocolate orange rocky road from the fridge about half an hour before serving if you can – it’s easier to cut at room temperature. Divide into as many pieces as you like.
