Kid Friendly Pizza Dough Recipe
This wasn’t the first time I’d baked an easy homemade pizza dough, but I hadn’t yet made my own for a conventional pizza. Previously, I’d made a folded Italian calzone with homemade dough, but that takes an hour to rise. I decided to make this at the last minute, so I didn’t have time to wait. The inspiration for this kid friendly pizza dough recipe came from my daughter, who says she loves the homemade pizza served at her school.
This pizza base recipe is super simple, and doesn’t need time to rise. Yeast is required, but using a fast-action sachet means it’s a store cupboard ingredient that’s simple to have on standby. This easy pizza dough recipe would be great for kids to make themselves once they’re old enough, too. Family home baking at its best.
I’ve included the recipe for the tomato sauce and cheese topping I use, and you could add whatever else you like. We had some pepperoni so we added that to one, while leaving the other as a child pleasing margherita. This is fast food in the sense that it’s quick to make, but it’s so much more satisfying on every level.
This quick pizza dough recipe makes 2 large pizzas
Kid friendly pizza dough recipe ingredients
- Plain flour, 250g (plus extra for dusting)
- Dried fast action yeast, a 7g sachet
- Sugar, 1 tsp
- Salt, a pinch
- Olive oil, 1 tbsp
Equipment
How to make pizza dough
- Mix the flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre of the bowl and add the olive oil. Then add about 150ml warm water and combine to make a dough. On a floured work surface, knead this dough for about a minute, then roll into a ball. Leave this ball under the upside-down mixing bowl while you prepare the sauce and toppings.
- If you want to use my tomato sauce recipe, then all I do is mix 3 tbsp tomato puree with 1 tbsp tomato ketchup in a bowl.
- I use about 100g grated cheddar and a sliced ball of mozzarella cheese for 2 pizzas. Then you can add any other topping/s you like.
- Once you’re ready to go, divide the dough into two and form into balls. On a floured surface, roll each one out separately until it’s around 20cm across. Lift the prepared dough onto the pizza baking tray – or a pizza stone – and pinch all around the edge with your fingers and thumb to make a thicker crust.
- At this point you can spread the tomato sauce onto the pizza base before adding the cheese and any other toppings.
- Bake for about 8 minutes in a hot oven, at 220 degrees fan or equivalent.
Serve this easy pizza recipe piping hot.
